東北新幹線 川内駅から南西に1.2km、地下鉄東西線 青葉通一番町駅 から南西に800m、東北大学 片平キャンパスの西にある片平市民センター（仙台市青葉区米ケ袋一丁目1-35）の脇に看板が建てられた。令和5年(2023) 11月4日除幕。

野球試合前挨拶
発祥の地

～旧制二高グラウンド跡～

野球の試合前に、両チームの選手と審判団がホームベースを挟んで交わす挨拶は、この場所で生まれた。1911（明治44）年11月3日から開催された第1回東北六県中学大会で、第二高等学校（旧制二高・戦後、東北大学に包摂された）野球部の発案により、野球の健全性を示すために「礼に始まり礼に終わる」武道の礼式を手本として誕生した。
その後、翌月に京都で行われた旧制高校大会、さらには1915（大正4）年に始まった全国中等学校優勝野球大会（現在の夏の甲子園大会）で採用されたことにより全国に広まり、日本野球独特のスタイルとして定着した。

This is where the pre-game salute between the players of the two teams and the umpires across the home bases before a baseball game originated.
At the first Tohoku Six Prefectures High School Tournament which began on November 3, 1911; as proposed by the baseball club of Second Higher School (Daini Higher School before educational reform. The school was merged into Tohoku University after World War II), a pre-game salute modeled after the martial arts etiquette of "beginning and ending with respect" was created to demonstrate the integrity of baseball as a sport.
Later, the pre-game salute was adopted in the Higher School Tournament held in Kyoto the following month, and then in the Japanese High School Baseball Championship which began in 1915 (now the Summer Koshien). As a result, the pre-game salute spread throughout the country and established itself as a style unique to Japanese baseball.
